Today Marks The 56th Anniversary of The Temptation’s 12th Studio Album “Psychedelic Shack” Originally Released on March 6, 1970.
“Psychedelic Shack” is the twelfth studio album by The Temptations released in 1970 on Motown Records.
The album peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Singles chart, and at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart.
The album’s title-track "Psychedelic Shack" was released as a single it peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Best Selling Soul Singles chart, and at #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"Hum Along and Dance" was the album’s second single, it failed to chart on the Billboard charts.
"Hum Along and Dance" was one of the Temptations' many psychedelic soul recordings that features Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, and Dennis Edwards taking turns in delivering the song's chorus and scatting over the instrumental track.
"Hum Along and Dance" was covered by the Jackson 5ive (1973) and Rock band Rare Earth also in (1973).
Along with the hit title track, the album also features the group's original version of "War", which became a major hit for Edwin Starr later in 1970.
Psychedelic Shack was one of the last albums completed before the third incarnation of The Temptations (Dennis Edwards, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, and Otis Williams) broke apart.
The album was produced by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong who contributed to writing all of the songs on the album as well.
