​Today Marks The 51st Anniversary of The Blackbyrd’s “Cornbread, Earl and Me (Soundtrack) Originally Released on June 1, 1975.

“Cornbread, Earl and Me (Soundtrack)” is a movie soundtrack track that features The Blackbyrds and was composed by jazz musician Donald Byrd. The album was released in 1975 on Fantasy Records.

 

The Blackbyrds provided the soundtrack for the 1975 blaxploitation film Cornbread, Earl and Me, which featured the movie debut of Larry Fishburne.

 

The soundtrack peaked at #19 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Album charts, #39 on the U.S. Billboard Jazz Album charts and at #150 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

James Brown - Soul Syndrome

​Today Marks The 46th Anniversary of James Brown’s 50th Studio Album “Soul Syndrome” Originally Released on June 1, 1980.

“Soul Syndrome” is a studio album by American musician James Brown, released in 1980 by TK Records.

 

The album reached #63 on the U.S. Billboard Top Black Albums chart.

 

Two singles were released from the album “Rapp Payback (Where iz Moses)” and “Stay with Me”.

 

“Rapp Payback (Where iz Moses)” reached number #48 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Singles chart and at #65 on U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

 

"Rapp Payback (Where Iz Moses)" is a disco reworking of his 1974 song "The Payback". Released as a two-part single on TK Records.

 

“Stay with Me” reached #80 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Singles chart .

Dynasty - Daydreamin’

​Today Marks The 40th Anniversary of Dynasty’s 5th Studio Album “Daydreamin'” Originally Released on June 1, 1986.

“Daydreamin'” is the fifth studio album by the Los Angeles, California-based R&B funk band Dynasty, released in 1986 on SOLAR Records.

 

The album, which features tracks like "Personality" and "Daydreamin'," relies heavily on the signature rhythm production by Leon Sylvers III, though it suffers from some noticeable filler and recycling of the group's older catalog.

 

The album features a few cuts that were also released on their final album “Out of Control”showcasing that the label was beginning to repurpose older catalog material by the late 80s.

 

The song "Personality" was  the album’s standout track the song gained a cult following for offering bright harmonies, playful lyrics, and the distinct 1980s SOLAR sound.

Bootsy's Rubber Band - This Boot Is Made for Fonk-N

​Today Marks The 47th Anniversary of Bootsy's Rubber Band’s 4th Studio Album “This Boot Is Made for Fonk-N” Originally Released on June 1, 1979.

“This Boot Is Made for Fonk-N” is the fourth studio album by P-Funk band Bootsy's Rubber Band, released in 1979 on Warner Bros. Records.

 

The album peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart and at #52 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes charts.

 

Three singles were released from the album, Jam Fan (Hot), Bootsy (Get Live), and Under the Influence of a Groove.

 

“Jam Fan (Hot)” reached #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

 

“Bootsy (Get Live)” reached #38 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

 

“Under the Influence of a Groove” failed to chart on the Billboard music charts.

 

The album was more experimental in nature than previous efforts. It would also mark the last time that the name "Bootsy's Rubber Band" would be used on a Bootsy Collins related project until the 1982 12" single release "Body Slam".

 

The album's cover was drawn by P-Funk album artist Overton Loyd. The album included an 8-page comic book titled "The Almost Finished Comic" also drawn by Loyd.

 

Clinton and Bootsy Collins under the aliases Dr. Funkenstein and Starr-Mon.

 

The album was reissued first in 1990 by the Warner/Pioneer company in Japan and then by Warner Music-Europe.

 

In 2007, the album was licensed through Rhino Records and reissued through the Collectors Choice music service.
