Today Marks The 50th Anniversary of The Meters 6th Studio Album “Fire on the Bayou” Originally Released on July 1, 1975.
“Fire on the Bayou” is the sixth studio album by the New Orleans funk group The Meters released in 1975 on Reprise Records.
Upon its release the album did not achieve significant chart success in terms of Billboard Hot 100 rankings.
The album reached #41 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's. chart, and at #179 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.
Two songs were released as singles "Out in the Country" and "Fire on the Bayou". Additionally, "Love Slip Upon Ya" was also released as a single.
The album was well-received by critics, with some praising its New Orleans sound and the influence of Latin and Caribbean music according to a review from the Globe and Mail and The New York Times.
