The Temptations - Cloud Nine

Today Marks The 57th Anniversary of The Temptations’ 9th Studio Album “Cloud Nine” Originally Released on February 17, 1969.

 

“Cloud Nine” is the ninth studio album by Psychedelic Soul/Funk group The Temptations released in 1969 on Gordy Records.

 

The album marked a major turning point in the group's career. It is the first full Temptations studio LP to feature Dennis Edwards as the replacement for David Ruffin, who was fired in June 1968.

 

Along with the debut of their new lead vocalist Dennis Edwards the Temptations' delve into psychedelic soul under the ambitious direction of producer fellow Motown producer Norman Whitfield.

 

The album peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs charts.

 

Two singles were released from the album, "Cloud Nine" and “Run Away Child, Running Wild".

 

"Cloud Nine" peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Singles charts, and at #6 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles charts.

 

"Run Away Child, Running Wild" peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard R&B Singles charts, and at #6 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles charts.

 

The song "Cloud Nine" won a Grammy Award in 1979 for Best Rhythm & Blues Group Performance, Vocal or Instrumental.

 

The album was certified gold in the United States by the RIAA.
