Today Marks The 52nd Anniversary of The Blackbyrds’s Debut Self-titled Album “The Blackbyrds” Originally Released on January 1, 1974.
“The Blackbyrds” is the debut album by the American jazz-funk fusion group the Blackbyrds. released in 1974 on Fantasy Records.
The album peaked at #6 on U.S. Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart, #14 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and at #96 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart.
Two songs were released as singles from the album "Do It, Fluid" and "Gut Level".
"Do It, Fluid" reached #23 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and at #69 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
"Gut Level" peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
The album artwork is a section of the Vincent Van Gogh painting Wheatfield with Crows.
The album was produced by Larry Mizell and Donald Byrd with production supervision by Orrin Keepnews.
