T. S. Monk - House of Music

Today Marks The 45th Anniversary of T. S. Monk’s Debut Studio Album “House of Music” Originally Released on December 15, 1980.

 

“House of Music” is the debut studio album by American jazz drummer, composer and bandleader T. S. Monk released in 1980 on Mirage Records.

 

The album reached #41 on the U.S. Billboard Black Albums chart.

 

Two songs were released as singles from the album “Candidate for Love” and "Bon Bon Vie (Gimme the Good Life)".

 

“Candidate for Love” reached #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance/Disco chart and at #69 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

 

The song "Bon Bon Vie (Gimme the Good Life)" was released as the album’s second single, it peaked at #11 on both the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles and The U.S. Billboard Hot Dance/Disco Songs chart, The song also reached #63 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

 

Bon Bon Vie" was sampled by rapper Jaz-O for his 1989 song "Pumpin'", featuring Jay-Z..

 

The song's horn intro was sampled by hip hop group Public Enemy for the song "Welcome to the Terrordome" from their album Fear of a Black Planet.

 

The horn intro was also sampled by Above the Law on their 1993 song "G's & Macoronies", by R&B group Blackstreet on their 1994 song "Good Life", and by rapper Raekwon on his 2009 song "Stick Up Music".

 

"Bon Bon Vie" was remixed by Paul Simpson in 2010.
