Today Marks The 53rd Anniversary of New Birth’s 4th Studio Album “Birth Day” Originally Released on December 12, 1972.
“Birth Day” is the fourth studio album by American funk and R&B collective New Birth, released in 1972 on RCA Records.
The album peaked #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Soul LPs chart and at #31 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs chart.
Two songs were released as singles from the album "I Can Understand It" and "Until It's Time for You to Go".
"I Can Understand It" the first single single peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Best Selling Soul Singles chart and at #35 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"Until It's Time for You to Go" was the second single released from the album, it reached #21 on the U.S. Billboard Best Selling Soul Singles chart and at #97 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"I Can Understand It" was originally recorded by Bobby Womack for his top ten album, Understanding, released in late 1972.
The original version recorded by Bobby Womack was done in a more blues style while New Birth’s version had a funkier uptempo sound to it.
The album also featured the funk jam "Got To Get A Knutt," which featured a play on words on various television commercial slogans. The song also popular on urban radio stations.
New Birth also did a cover of The Stylistics’ hit single "Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)".
“Birth Day” became a breakthrough album for New Birth it became the album that put the group on the map.
“Birth Day” would be the last album on which Ann Bogan would appear, as she succumbed to her mother's pressure to stop singing and raise her two children herself.
The album was produced by Harvey Fuqua and Vernon Bullock who was uncredited for his work on the album.
