Today Marks The 46th Anniversary of The Gap Band's 4th Studio Album "The Gap Band II" Originally Released November 19, 1979.

 

The Gap Band II is the fourth studio album by the Gap Band, released in 1979 on Mercury Records.

 

The album peaked at #42 on the US Billboard 200 chart and at #3 on Billboard's US Top R&B/Soul Albums chart.

 

Three singles from the album was released "I Don't Believe You Want to Get up and Dance (Oops!)", "Party Lights" and "Steppin' (Out)".

 

"I Don't Believe You Want to Get up and Dance (Oops!)" peaked at #4 on the Billboard The Hot R&B Songs chart and at #52 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

 

"Party Lights" peaked at #36 on the Billboard The Hot R&B Songs chart

 

"Steppin' (Out)" peaked at #10 on the Billboard The Hot R&B Songs chart.

 

The album established the Gap Band as leaders in the R&B market, becoming their first gold album, selling over 500,000 copies through 1980.

 

The album's most successful track, "I Don't Believe You Want to Get up and Dance (Oops!)", was their first to incorporate aspects of the P-Funk sound.

 

The song also alludes to a well-known corruption of the childhood nursery rhyme, Jack and Jill (a pattern later continued on "Humpin'").
