Today Marks The 45th Anniversary of The Sweat Band's Debut Self-Titled Album "The Sweat Band" Originally Released on November 12, 1980.

 

“Sweat Band” is the 1980 debut self-titled album by the P-Funk spin-off act the Sweat Band released in 1980 on Uncle Jam Records.

 

Upon its release the album didn’t chart on the Billboard album charts.

 

The song “Freak To Freak” was released as the album’s lead single it reached #25 on the U.S. Billboard Soul Singles chart and at #47 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

 

Other standout songs include "We Do It All Day Long", "Body Shop", "Hyper Space", and "Love Munch".

 

Sweat Band was initially envisioned to be the 5th release from Bootsy Collin’s funktacular Rubber Band. But due to legal battles over the used of the name “Bootsy’s Rubber Band” somehow Bootsy lost the rights to the name.

 

The P-Funk spin-off featured many of the same musicians and singers from Collins' Parliament-Funkadelic collective including Bernie Worrell, Garry Shider and Michael Hampton as well as a horn section comprising of Fred Wesley, Richard Griffith and Maceo Parker.

 

The album was produced by Bootsy Collins, with George Clinton serving as the executive producer of the album.
