Today Marks The 41st Anniversary of Shalamar’s 8th Studio Album “Heartbreak” Originally Released on November 12, 1984.
“Heartbreak” is the eighth studio album by R&B group Shalamar, released in 1984 on SOLAR Records.
The album reached #32 on the U.S. Billboard Top Black Albums chart, and at #90 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart.
Three songs were released as singles from the album, "Dancing in the Sheets", "Amnesia" and "My Girl Loves Me".
"Dancing in the Sheets" peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and #18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Black Singles chart.
"Amnesia" reached #49 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, and at #73 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"My Girl Loves Me" reached #22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, #25 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, and at #106 just beneath the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The album features "Dancing in the Sheets" from the Footloose soundtrack which was nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 27th Grammy Awards and "Don't Get Stopped in Beverly Hills" from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack which won Hewett and Free a Grammy when the soundtrack won Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards.
The album features a new line-up of Delisa Davis, Micki Free and Howard Hewett, The new members replaced the original founding members Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley who had both left the group after the release of the previous album The Look).
“Heartbreak” marked Howard Hewett’s last album with Shalamar before embarking on a solo career.
The album was certified Gold in the United States by the RIAA for sales over 500,000.
