This Month of May Marks The 42nd Anniversary of Rick James’ 6th Studio Album “Throwin' Down” Originally Released on May 13,1982.
“Throwin' Down” is the 6th studio album by Rick James, released in 1982 via Gordy Records.
The album peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and at 13 on the Billboard 200. chart
Six songs were released as singles from the album "Standing on the Top", "Dance wit' Me", "Hard to Get", "She Blew My Mind (69 Times)", "Teardrops" and "Throwdown".
"Standing on the Top" peaked at #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
"Standing on the Top" was written and produced by Rick James for Motown soul group The Temptations, Rick James is also featured in the song and appears in the music video as well.
The song was featured as an extended 9:48 versions of the song on The Temptations “Reunion” album. The song on “Throwin' Down” is a short version at only 3:51 minutes.
"Dance wit' Me"peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and at #7 on the.U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
"Hard to Get" peaked at #15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
"She Blew My Mind (69 Times)" peaked at #62 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
"Teardrops" and "Throwdown" were released as the album’s fifth and sixth singles both fall to reach the Billboard charts.
“Throwin' Down” was certified gold by the RIAA. It was nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album.
