Today Marks The 39th Anniversary of The Gap Band’s 10th Studio Album “The Gap Band 8” Originally Released on December 1, 1986.

 

“Gap Band 8” is the 10th studio album by R&B and funk band The Gap Band released in 1986 on Total Experience Records.

 

The album reached #29 on the U.S. Billboard Top Black Albums chart.

 

The album includes the singles "Big Fun", "How Music Came About" and "Zibble, Zibble (Get the Money)" (also known as "Get Loose, Get Funky").

 

"Big Fun" peaked at #8 on the U.S. Black Singles chart.

 

"Zibble, Zibble (Get the Money) (AKA: Get Loose, Get Funky)" peaked at #15 on the U.S. Black Singles chart.

 

"How Music Came About" didn’t chart in the United States but it reached #61 on the United Kingdom Pop charts.

 

The album was expanded and remastered in 2011 by Big Break Records including 6 additional bonus tracks.

“Night Grooves” is a studio compilation album by jazz-funk fusion band The Blackbyrds released in 1978 on Fantasy Records.

 

The album features their most popular and sought-after tracks specifically selected for their dance-floor appeal, including "Happy Music," "Rock Creek Park," and "Walking In Rhythm".

 

The music itself, featuring the skilled playing of Donald Byrd's protégés, is consistently rated highly (averaging over 4 out of 5 stars on aggregate sites) for its pure funk appeal and solid musicianship.

Today Mark The 49th Anniversary of Roy Ayers’ Studio Album “Vibrations” Originally Released on December 1, 1976.

 

“Vibrations” is a Roy Ayers studio album released under the Roy Ayers Ubiquity umbrella. It was released in 1976 on Polydor Records.

 

The album peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard Jazz Albums chart, #74 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart and at #11 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart.

 

“Vibrations” is a quintessential jazz-funk album it features the signature R&B-infused jazz-funk sound that Roy Ayers had established by this point in his career.

 

The album is praised for its standout songs, including the iconic "Searching," the funky "Domelo (Give It To Me)," and the uptempo "Come Out And Play".

Ramsey Lewis - Sun Goddess

Today Marks The 51st Anniversary of Ramsey Lewis’ 43rd Studio Album “Sun Goddess” Originally Released on December 1, 1974.

 

“Sun Goddess” is a jazz album by Ramsey Lewis, released on Columbia Records in 1974.

 

The album peaked at #1 on both the U.S. Billboard Top Soul Albums chart and the .U.S. Billboard Jazz Albums charts, The album also reached #12 on the U.S. Billboard Top Pop Albums chart

 

Two songs were released as singles the album’s title track “Sun Goddess” and “Hot Dawgit”.

 

“Sun Goddess” reached #20 on the U.S. Billboard Soul Singles chart and at #44 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles chart.

 

“Hot Dawgit” reached #50 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles chart and at #61 on the U. S. Billboard Soul Singles chart.

 

Ramsey Lewis wanted to head in a new musical direction in the 1970s. As the mid-70s approached, he reunited with Maurice White, who at that time was with his own band, Earth, Wind & Fire. Members of EW&F including White played on the album sessions, while Philip Bailey added vocals.

 

The album became a crossover hit, It was certified gold in the United States by the RIAA.

 

The model on the album cover was Susan Leigh Scott, now Susan Maxon.

Quazar - Quazar

Today Marks The 47th of  Quazar's Debut Studio Album "Quazar" Released on December 1, 1978.

 

The album was released by Arista Records in the late fall of 1978.

 

The band was led by former P-Funk vocalist Glenn Goins, who also served as the producer and arranger of the album. Goins died before the album's release, effectively sealing the group's fate.

 

The album also features contributions from former P-Funk drummer Jerome Brailey. Both Glenn Goins and Jerome Brailey were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Parliament-Funkadelic.

 

The album was reissued on CD by P-Vine records in Japan in 1991, but went out of print shortly thereafter. In June 2012, the album was re-released on CD by BBR records.

 

This expanded version includes the single versions of "Funk 'N' Roll (Dancin' In The Funkshine)", "Funk With A Bigfoot" and "Savin' My Love For A Rainy Day".

Today Marks The 48th Anniversary of Pleasure's 3rd Studio Album "Joyous" Originally Released in December 1, 1977.

 

Joyous is the third album by Portland, Oregon-based R&B group Pleasure. It was released in 1977 on Fantasy Records.

 

The album #34 on Billboard's Top Soul Albums chart and at #113 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart.

 

The album's title track "Joyous" peaked at #35 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.

 

The album produced by jazz legend Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders.
