Parliament - Mothership Connection

Today Marks The 50th Anniversary of Parliament's 4th Studio Album "Mothership Connection" Originally Released December 15, 1975.

 

“Mothership Connection” is the fourth album by American funk band Parliament, released on December 15, 1975 on Casablanca Records.

 

The album peaked at #13 on the US Billboard 200 chart and at #4 on Billboard's US R&B Albums chart.

 

"P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" is a funk song by Parliament. It is the first track on their 1975 album Mothership Connection and was the first single to be released from the album.

 

The song peaked at #33 on the Billboard U.S. R&B chart.

 

"Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" was the second single to be released from Parliament's 1975 album Mothership Connection.

 

The song was the highest-charting single from the album, peaking #5 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart.

 

"Mothership Connection (Star Child)" was the third and last single released from the band's 1975 album Mothership Connection.

 

The song introduces George Clinton's messianic alien alter ego Star Child for the first time.

 

The song peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

 

Mothership Connection became Parliament's first album to be certified gold and later platinum.

 

The Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry in 2011, declaring "The album has had an enormous influence on jazz, rock and dance music."

 

The album has received many accolades, including being named TV network VH1's 55th greatest album of all time. In 2012, it was ranked at number 276 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It was featured again on the 2020 edition, at number 363.

 

Vibe Magazine listed Mothership Connection in their "Essential Black Rock Recordings" list, and it was included in the 2005 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
