Today Marks The 52nd Anniversary of Sly & The Family Stone's 5th Studio Album "There's a Riot Goin' On" Originally Released November 1, 1971.
“There's a Riot Goin' On” is the fifth studio album by American funk and soul band Sly and the Family Stone.
The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and at #1 on the Billboard Billboard Top Soul Albums chart.
Three singles were released from the album "Family Affair", "Runnin' Away" and “(You Caught Me) Smilin”
The first single "Family Affair" peaked at #1 on both the Billboard
The Top 100 Soul/R&B Singles and the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The second single "Runnin' Away" peaked at #15 on the Billboard
The Top 100 Soul/R&B Singles and at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The third and last single released from the album “(You Caught Me) Smilin'”reached #21 on the Billboard Top 100 Soul/R&B Singles chart.
The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of at least one million copies in the US.
Originally released to mixed reviews, the album has since been praised as one of the greatest and most influential recordings of all time, having impacted the funk, jazz-funk, and hip hop genres in particular. It ranks frequently and highly in many publications' best-album lists, including Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time", on which it placed 99th in 2003 and 82nd in 2020.
