
Today Marks The 48th Anniversary of Chic’s Debut Self-titled Studio Album “Take It Off” Originally Released on November 22. 1977.
“Chic” is the debut self titled studio album by disc/funk band Chic released in 1977 on Atlantic Records.
The album reached #34 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart, and at #37 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes charts.
Two songs were released as singles from the album, "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)", and "Everybody Dance".
"Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, and at #6 on both the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.
"Everybody Dance" peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, and at #38 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The album’s cover art featured two white models, Valentine Monnier (left) and Alva Chinn (right), uncredited in a photograph taken by Frank Laffitte.
The album was certified gold in the United States by the RIAA selling over 500,000^ copies.
The album Chic was released on compact disc by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991.
The album was digitally remastered and re-issued by Wounded Bird Records in 2006 and by Warner Music Japan in 2011.
