Today Marks The 21st Anniversary of Teena Marie’s 11th Studio Album “La Doña” Originally Released on May 11, 2004.
“La Doña” is the eleventh studio album by Funk and R&B singer, Teena Marie released in 2004 on Cash Money Records and Universal Records.
The album peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and at #6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts.
Two songs were released from the album as singles, "Still in Love" and “A Rose By Any Other Name”
"Still in Love" reached #23 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart, and at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Still in Love" was Marie's first Top 30 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart in 14 years since her last big hit single “If I Were a Bell”.
“A Rose By Any Other Name” reached #53 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart, and at #97 on the Billboard Hot 100.
She performed the song "My Body's Hungry" on the television sitcom The Parkers in 2000.
The album includes guest appearances from Rick James ("I Got You" - this was the last recording James made before his death), Gerald Levert ("A Rose by Any Other Name"), Common ("Revelations 3:8 Introduction"), Birdman ("Off the Chain"), MC Lyte ("The Mackin' Game") and Marie's daughter, Alia Rose.
