Today Marks The 36th Anniversary of Prince’s 10th Studio Album “Lovesexy” Originally Released on May 10, 1988.
“Lovesexy” is the tenth studio album by the American singer-songwriter and musician Prince, released on May 10, 1988, by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records.
The album peaked at #5 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and at #11 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
"Alphabet St." peaked at #3 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, #8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at #9 on the US Cash Box Top 100.
The singles “Glam Slam” and “I Wish U Heaven” weren’t released in the United States, However both singles charted well overseas.
“Lovesexy” was Prince's first album since 1981's Controversy not to crack the top 10 in the United States, however, it reached number one in the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
The album was recorded in just seven weeks, from mid-December 1987 to late January 1988, at Prince's new Paisley Park Studios, after the cancellation of the infamous Black Album and most of the album is a solo effort from Prince, with a few exceptions. The lyrical themes of the record include positivity, self-improvement, spirituality, and God.
“Lovesexy” was certified gold in the United States selling 500,000 and platinum in the United Kingdom selling 300,000 copies.
