Bustin' Out of L Seven is the second album by the American musician Rick James, released in 1979 through Gordy Record.
The album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
“Bustin' Out (On Funk)" peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Top R&B Songs chart and at number 71 on the Billboard Dance Songs charts.
"Bustin' Out (On Funk)". L7 is slang for "square", as in the opening lyrics of "Bustin' Out (On Funk)", "Well, alright, you squares, it's time you smoked, Fire up this funk and let's have a toke". The letter L and the number 7 form a square.
“Fool on the Street" peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs charts.
Bustin' Out of L Seven is probably one of Rick James' most underrated albums it maps his musical range, from hard hitting funk to disco jams.
