Jesse Johnson - Every Shade of Love

Today Marks The 38th Anniversary of Jesse Johnson’s 3rd Studio Album “Every Shade of Love” Originally Released on April 23, 1988.

“Every Shade of Love” is the third studio album by funk musician Jesse Johnson, released in 1988 on A&M Records.

 

The album reached #26 on the U.S. Billboard Black LPs chart, and at #79 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

 

“Love Struck” was the most popular song from the album, it peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, #13 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Songs chart, and at #78 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

 

The album had moderate commercial success and is considered a hard-edged, live-oriented funk staple of the late 80s, noted for its strong, Prince-inspired dance grooves.

 

The album’s title track "Every Shade of Love" was released as a single it reached #19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Black Singles chart.

 

The song also reached #98 on the UK singles chart.

 

The album served as the final release in his 80s trio of albums (including Jesse Johnson's Revue and Shockadelica) before he shifted to production work.
