Rufus - Numbers

Today Marks The 46th Anniversary of Rufus’ 7th Studio Album “Numbers” Originally Released on January 22, 1979.

 

“Numbers” is the seventh studio album by funk band Rufus, released in 1979 on ABC Records.

 

The album reached #15 on the U.S. Billboard Top Soul LPs chart, and at #81 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs charts.

 

Two songs were released as singles from the album "Keep It Together (Declaration of Love)" and "Ain't Nobody Like You".

 

"Keep It Together (Declaration of Love)" reached #16 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, and at #109 just beneath the U.S. Billboard Billboard Hot 100.

 

"Ain't Nobody Like You" the album second single released failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard charts.

 

The album was the band's first album without Chaka Khan on lead vocals.

 

The band members Tony Maiden and David "Hawk" Wolinski shared lead vocal duties, with additional female leads by Helen Lowe and Maxayne.

 

“Numbers” also marked the debut of drummer John "J.R." Robinson to the lineup. He would remain Rufus's drummer for the rest of their run.

 

Chaka Khan returned to the band for the recording of their follow-up album Masterjam, which was produced by Quincy Jones.
