
Today Marks The 53rd Anniversary of WAR’s 5th Studio Album “The World Is a Ghetto” Originally Released on November 24, 1972.
“The World Is a Ghetto” is the fifth studio album by American funk and progressive soul band WAR, released in late 1972 on United Artists Records.
The album peaked at #1 on both U.S. Billboard Soul Albums and the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tape charts.
Two songs were released as singles from the album "The Cisco Kid" and the album’s title track "The World Is a Ghetto".
"The Cisco Kid" peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Pop singles chart and at #5 on the U.S. Billboard R&B singles chart.
"The World Is a Ghetto" peaked #3 on the U.S. Billboard R&B singles chart and #7 on the U.S. Billboard Pop singles chart in 1973.
"The World Is a Ghetto" was named Billboard magazine's Album of the Year as the best-selling album of 1973.
The album was ranked number 444 on Rolling Stone magazine's original list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The album was certified gold in the United States by the RIAA selling more than 500,000^ copies.
