Today Marks The 44th Anniversary of Fatback’s 16th Studio Album “Gigolo” Originally Released on November 30, 1981.
“Gigolo” is the sixteenth studio album by New York City, disco/funk band “Fatback” released in 1982 on Spring Records.
The album reached #68 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart, and at #148 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes charts.
Two singles were released from the album, "Rockin' to the Beat", and "I'm So in Love".
"Rockin' to the Beat" reached #50 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles charts.
"I'm So in Love" failed to chart in the United States on the Billboard charts.
Title track "Gigolo": Reflects a heavy P-Funk influence, with a tight and burning groove that progresses throughout the song.
"Oh Girl": A soulful reinterpretation of the Chi-Lites' classic, which reviewers noted had a "far more soulful grit" than the original.
The album's re-release on CD by Southbound Records in 1993 helped ensure its availability to later generations of funk enthusiasts.
"Do It (Til The Feelin' Runs Out)": This song exemplifies the album's minimalist, drum-and-bass synth groove that was a hallmark of their early '80s output.
