Today Marks The 50th Anniversary of The Blackbyrds 3rd Studio Album “City Life” Originally Released on November 1, 1975.
“City Life” is the third studio album by the jazz-funk fusion band the Blackbyrds, released in 1975 on Fantasy Records.
The album peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Jazz LPs chart, #3 on the U.S. Billboard Top Soul LPs chart, and at #16 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes charts.
Four songs were released as singles from the album, the album’s title track "City Life", "Flying High", "Happy Music" and "Rock Creek Park".
"City Life" peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Disco Singles chart.
"Flying High" reached #22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, and at #70 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"Happy Music" peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, #6 on the U.S. Billboard Disco Singles chart, and at #19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"Rock Creek Park" reached #37 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, and at #93 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The album “City Life” is widely considered the Blackbyrds’ best work, praised for its masterful blend of jazz-funk with standout tracks like the iconic "Rock Creek Park".
The album is seen as a classic of its era, being a particularly enduring example of its influence and appeal.
