Today Marks The 51st Anniversary of The Meters 5th Studio Album “Rejuvenation” Originally Released on July 3, 1974.
“Rejuvenation” is the fifth studio album by the New Orleans funk group The Meters released in 1974 on Reprise Records.
Upon its release the album failed to chart in the United States.
Despite not charting as an album, "Rejuvenation" deeply inspired funk, rock, soul, and hip-hop artists, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Grateful Dead, and Public Enemy.
Two songs were released from the album "Hey Pocky A-Way" and “People Say”
"Hey Pocky A-Way" reached #30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.
“People Say” reached #52 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.
The album is praised for its "peppery stew of Bourbon Street drama and gritty rural grooves".
"Rejuvenation" album is a highly regarded funk classic known for its influence and standout singles.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 138 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and 139 in a 2012 Rolling Stone magazine's revised list.
