Average White Band - Cut the Cake

Today Marks The 50th Anniversary of The Average White Band’s 3rd Studio Album “Cut the Cake” Originally released on June 10, 1975.

“Cut the Cake” is the third studio album by Scottish funk and R&B band

The Average White Band released in 1975 on Atlantic Records.

The album peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart, and at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes charts.

Four songs were released as singles, the album’s title track “Cut The Cake", "If I Ever Lose This Heaven", "School Boy Crush" and “Cloudy”.

"Cut The Cake" peaked at #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, #10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and at #13 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs charts.

"If I Ever Lose This Heaven" reached #25 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, #39 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

"School Boy Crush" at #33 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, #22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

"Cloudy" failed to chart in the United States.

The follow-up album to the immensely successful AWB in 1974, recording was plagued by creative and artistic differences, with several members of the band walking out of the studio on three occasions. One point of conflict was the band's mourning for original drummer Robbie McIntosh, who died of a heroin overdose in 1974.

The album was dedicated to was dedicated to "our friend and brother Robbie McIntosh."
