Today Marks The 43rd Anniversary of The Temptations’ 28th Studio Album “Reunion” Originally Released on April 7, 1982.
“Reunion” is a studio album by the Temptations released in 1982 on Gordy Records.
The album peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Soul LP's chart, and at #37 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart.
Two songs were released as singles "Standing On the Top” and
"Standing On the Top” peaked at #6 on U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles, and at #66 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
"More On the Inside" reached #82 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.
The album was released during the 1982 Temptations Reunion tour, which reunited David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks with the Temptations after a decade-long absence.
The album also features then-current Temptations Dennis Edwards, Glenn Leonard, Richard Street, and founding members Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin.
Rick James penned the album’s lead single “Standing On the Top” in which he’s featured alongside singing with the Temptations.
The song is also featured on Rick James’ 1982 album “Throwin' Down” however James’ version on his album is a short version of 3:51 where the Temptations version is 9:50 long.
The Reunion album was their first album to reach the top 40 since Wings of Love (1976).
The Reunion tour, which began in April 1982 was only partially successful, because of turmoil with in the group
Otis Williams fired David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks in February of 1983 .
Berry Gordy executively produced the album with tracks produced by multiple producers including Smokey Robinson, Rick James, Berry Gordy himself and Ron Miller.
